Analysing Your Existing Google Analytics Data
This post is next in the series on How to Build a Business Online in 7 Steps.
Step 1.6 – Analysing existing analytics data
If you already have a website, and you have been using Google Analytics to collect data about your visitors, now is the time to take a look at that data to learn more about your visitors behaviour whilst they are on your site. You can learn a lot from this that you can use to increase visitors to your website.
If you are not using Google Analytics look at the data in whatever program you use for your statistics. You can skip this step if you have not been collecting statistics about your website visitors.
EXERCISE
What you want to find out from your analysis, and make a note of, is the following:
- What keywords do visitors use to find your website?
- Which pages do they look at the most?
- Which websites refer visitors to yours?
- Which pages do visitors leave your website from?
- What is the bounce rate for your website? The bounce rate shows the percentage of people who come to your site and leave without looking at any other pages. A bounce rate of 50% or less is good.
After you have completed this first step you will have a wealth of information you can use to improve your website (or create one) and improve the ranking and conversion rate of that website in the search engines.
Coming Next…
Next time we move onto step 2 and focus on the content structure of your website. Selecting and structuring your content in the right way will make a massive difference to your search engine rankings.
